Chinese Translation Released
Posted by James on Sunday 24th December 2006 @ 3:52 PM

Despite the fact that Grim Fandango has been officially translated into quite a few languages, there are still many languages which it hasn't been translated into. One of these languages is Chinese.

After over a year's work, the Chinese fan-translated version of Grim Fandango, created by Bro.Ichi and Pscj was completed in late 2006. More information about the patch can be found on our languages page and the patch can be downloaded from our downloads page and installed in a matter of minutes.

It isn't an easy job translating the game - every line of dialogue has to be translated by hand (a computerised translation would lose a lot of the meaning in the dialogue), so make sure you take a look.

The Department of Death team would also like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year :)

Hi. I don't know if this is the right place to ask, but how did these people translate it? What files do I need to extract, how do I change them, are there any size limitations on lines, how do I patch the original game, do all non-Latin characters work, etc.? I think people would be interested in this process. I've contemplated translating the game into Hebrew, and if someone has already done some of the framework for fan translations, I'd love to see it.

A very good effort. I know first hand that translating Grim is quite a huge task. Even more so, when translating it to a language that does not use the latin ascii characters.

But why is this patch not working for me?
I don't see any Japanese characters at all. Just some dots and blanks.
